Image via Wikipedia

Its said that There are approximately 15 million prostitutes in India. Girls in prostitution in India, Pakistan and the Middle East are tortured, held in virtual imprisonment, sexually abused, and raped. Girl prostitutes are primarily located in low-middle income areas and business districts and are known by officials. And nowadays rich girls are also taking on this profession as they want to earn money as pocket money and think it’s a shortcut to making money.

A big cause of prostitution is poverty. But poverty is only one of the reasons. The helplessness of women forces them to sell their bodies. Many girls from villages are trapped for the trade in the pretext of love and elope from home only to find themselves sold in the city to pimps who take money from the women as commission. The other causes of prostitution include ill treatment by parents, bad company, family prostitutes, social customs, inability to arrange marriage, lack of sex education, media, , early marriage, lack of recreational facilities, ignorance, and acceptance of prostitution .

Most enter involuntarily… India and Pakistan are the main destinations for children under 16 who are trafficked in south Asia… The families of hijiras reject them. They face opposition from the public, and with the denial of employment they take to begging and then enter the sex market.

What do you think is solution for such issues?

Well this word is not unknown for those people who read newspaper daily. Almost every day we are being encountered with this kind of news. Well honor killing means for the sake of honor someone  kills their own daughter or son, if they perform marriage in other cast or in a family which is not of their standard. We all say that world has changed so much, much advancement has taken place, but why in this area people are still lacking behind.

Those parents who does that how can they forget, for this child only they waited for 9 months. If their child goes ill, they would sit for whole the night. If we look after them so much they why being parents we accept thier one decision. Yes being parents its our duty that we help them to take the right decision. We have every right on the life our children but if they choose life partner for them, we have no right to kill them. Just thinks for a while we kill them to maintain our self ego, but what  happens to their image when other people comes to know about it.

As its become the duty of parents to understand their children, same with the case of children also. They should also understand their parents. If   from a very conservative family then they should not involve in such a relationship which will not be later accepted by their parents.

Migration in India http://joinyes.org/migration-in-india/ http://joinyes.org/migration-in-india/#comments Tue, 14 Sep 2010 10:19:18 +0000 yes http://joinyes.org/?p=430 India as a nation has seen a high migration rate in recent years. Migration can be seen as same as people in India going abroad for the jobs, as they can earn better money and have a standerd lifestyle their.similarly people in villages and rural areas feels that if they want to have  a good life they should migrate to cities and earn money for their family.

Apart from women migrating due to marriage, employment is the biggest reason for migration.

Migrants have created pressure on others who are in same job market. freedom to migrate within the country is an enshrined right the uneven development.. Lack of rural employment, fragmentation of land holdings and declining public investment in agriculture create a crisis for rural Indians. Urban areas and some rural areas with industrial development or high agricultural production offer better prospects for jobs or self-employment.

So, they come in the cities and do some hard work so that they can lead a better life.

Domestic Violence in India http://joinyes.org/domestic-violence-in-india/ http://joinyes.org/domestic-violence-in-india/#comments Thu, 22 Jul 2010 12:20:02 +0000 YES http://joinyes.org/?p=394

Image via Wikipedia

Domestic Violence can be described as when one adult in a relationship misuses power to control another. It is the establishment of control and fear in a relationship through violence and other forms of abuse. The violence may involve physical abuse, sexual assault and threats. Social isolation and emotional abuse can have long-lasting effects as well as physical violence.

Domestic Violence isn’t just hitting, or fighting, or an occasional argument.  It’s an abuse of power.  The abuser tortures and controls the victim by calculated threats, intimidation, and physical violence. . Although both men and women can be abused, in most cases, the victims are women. Children in homes where there is domestic violence are also abused or neglected. Although the woman is usually the primary target, violence is sometimes directed toward children, and sometimes toward family members and friends.

Many women in India are the victims of domestic abuse. Domestic violence is a CRIME and you must seek help.

Common Forms of domestic violence & its effects

  • Female feticide (selective abortion based on the fetus gender or sex selection of child), Domestic violence, Dowry death or harassment , Mental and physical torture, Sexual trafficking, and Public humiliation.
  • Children can themselves get physically abused or hurt.
  • Witnessing violence actions can be mentally damaging
  • Children often try to intervene to protect the adult victim, which puts them in a dangerous situation
  • Children can copy the violent behaviour they witness, both as children and as adults
  • They may develop stress-related problems in health
  • They can loose self- confidence, be afraid/angry, and blame themselves for what is happening or feel guilty.

If you are being abused, REMEMBER! You are not alone. It is not your fault and Help is available. There are organizations like Young Energetic Society & Bell Bajao who take Domestic Violence seriously!

Milestone of YES http://joinyes.org/milestone-of-yes/ http://joinyes.org/milestone-of-yes/#comments Sat, 16 Jan 2010 10:16:47 +0000 YES http://joinyes.org/?p=344 YES has achieved, so far, many milestones with the hard work and dedication of its members.  Member of YES have been able to change the orthodox mentality of the slum dwellers and made them encouraging towards child education especially girls. YES has achieved happiness in those innocent soul which was otherwise living a hopeless life. YES has been able to plant dreams ,expectation sparkle & hope in those teary eyes.  Because of the  encouragement & motivation by the members of YES these slum dwellers have started looking forward into their better future –an expectation to get educated, lead a respectable life and get settle in mainstream.  For instance a girl named Pooja comes to C-50 sector 48 (where 35 slum children are given education everyday) everyday at 3 PM to learn something new. She is the best student amongst those 35 . The education is given by an underprivileged boy named Ashok, who  himself has got nurtured and trained by YES and is at a stge today from where he can share his knowledge to others who are needful like he was.

YES has also worked on the confidence level of these underprivileged children.  has also worked on the confidence level of these underprivileged children.  YES has broken the reluctance of these kids and brought them on stage where they have spoken their heart out and also performed showcasing their talent.

YES has tried and achieved success in changing the mentality of the society that these underprivileged kids can only beg on streets. YES has given them a platform to perform their talent on stage in front of various socialites, industrialist and so called privileged section.

We know, looking at the present scenario and the requirement of the mass change, that we have still done nothing remarkable. It might just be 1% effort. However for members of YES this 1% is like a lifelong achievement as this has brought smile and put a ray of hope in those kids who were otherwise living a soulless life

Since NGO is meant for social work which should never be on pay, YES doesn’t believe in volunteer who joins an NGO for a salaried job.  No member of YES gets paid for the social work he/she does. However we understand the requirement and need of every individual. Keeping this in mind YES has launched YCS- Yes Consultancy Services, a company where the members of YES can join and get paid for their work in YCS. So YCS fulfils their basic requirement and YES fulfils their urge of social work.

Educational Problems of Women in India http://joinyes.org/educational-problems-of-women-in-india/ http://joinyes.org/educational-problems-of-women-in-india/#comments Sat, 16 Jan 2010 09:51:28 +0000 YES http://joinyes.org/?p=329 In spite of certain outstanding examples of individual achievement of Indian woman and a definite improvement in their general condition over the last one hundred years, it remains true that our woman still constitute a large body of under – privileged citizens.

Nevertheless, they face distinctive problems that call for special attention.

The educational, economic, political and social backwardness of women makes them the largest group hindering the process of rapid social change.

Inadequate education or no education is the most important factor contributing to the backwardness of our masses, especially our womenfolk.

It is the low literacy among women which brings national literacy figure so low.

The economic structure of rural areas is such that children, especially girls, are required to help in household work and perform their chores. Young girls have to look after their younger brothers and sisters, have to get water from the well, have to carry food to the father in the field, etc. Since there is so much to be done at home, they cannot be spared for the luxury of attending a school. The resources of the poor farmer are so limited that he does not have anything to spare for the education of his children. If there are resources available it the boy who is sent to school first. Parents also do not see the value of educating their children specially daughters who would get married after all and be only housewives.

Widespread education for girls and women and a re-education of men and women is required to accept new and scientific attitudes towards each other and to themselves.

Sex Workers in India http://joinyes.org/sex-workers-in-india/ http://joinyes.org/sex-workers-in-india/#comments Sat, 16 Jan 2010 09:38:35 +0000 YES http://joinyes.org/?p=319 Sex workers are those who indulge in doing one night stands and are paid for it, can be mainly found in red light areas.

A major reason for becoming sex worker is attributed to poverty, and basically majority of them are brought from different states, as they are promised they will get some work and they are forced to commit in this profession.

Some people nowadays do it on their own will also, many movies in bollywood are based on sex wrokers, like Chandni bar by Madhur Bhandarkar, where the lead actress becomes sex worker due to her family remains no more and poverty.

These kind of people have no respect in society, and they can never get married, they are faced with sometimes exploitation also.

People see them with low eyes and they don’t have self esteem left.

May be there is no method of preventing this and due to this only a virus name AIDS is spreading more and more, so we should make awareness on condoms and give sex education.

Child Labor in India http://joinyes.org/child-labor-in-india/ http://joinyes.org/child-labor-in-india/#comments Sat, 16 Jan 2010 09:35:12 +0000 YES http://joinyes.org/?p=316 In 21st century where every parents want their children to become doctor, engineer, lawers etc but still there are some children for whom even DREAMING of becoming such things are crime. Today child labour are increasing day by day as they are paid much less than the older labour. Today India is developingso much, thanks to big MNCs, Factories and companies. But can you tell whom these MNCs, Factories and Companies should be thankful? No doubt n work in the they should be thankful to this unprivileged children who work so hard for this companies but in return what they get?

As these children work in the hard core area which involves a lot of phisical work. Many of the companies produce such products which are hazordous to the health because it produces gas like carbon monoxide. Although these gases are harmful to adults too but since children’s skin is delicate they get effected very soon which may also cause death.
Child labour only does’nt means working in the factory or companies or working as the domestic helper, also the children begging in the street are also considered as child labour. For their parents they are only the source of income. They only give birth to their choldren so that they can earn. But now a days child labour is not limited to these only, a new form of child labour has taken place in television industry. Now a days many serials have a child actor as the main protagonist like Balika Vadu, Jhasi Ki Rani, Uttran, Meera etc.

Although we may think how its a child labour. coming in the TV is like the dream for everyone and at this age they are already coming in the TV but we are forgetting one thing that when this children should concentrate on their studies and should enjoy their full life
